Festive Coronation at Grande Rio

This Saturday (20), Virginia Fonseca, 26, was officially crowned drum queen of Grande Rio. The event, held at the school's court in Duque de Caxias, marked the beginning of the season for Carnival 2026, with the sash and crown being passed on by Paolla Oliveira, 43, who held the position for the previous five parades.

Preparation and Expectations of the New Queen

Before the coronation, Virginia told Quem that, although her body is not yet as she desires, 'There hasn't been time yet, but by Carnival, it will be. And the samba is in my feet!', promising dedication. She expressed confidence but also 'butterflies in her stomach' for it being a new experience, stating that she feels 'prepared, committed, and ready to give my best. The Grande Rio community deserves it'.

Reception and Involvement with Carnival

David Brazil, excited, celebrated the night, highlighting the community's emotion and Virginia's arrival. Initially, Virginia's choice generated some strangeness, but she demonstrated commitment to the school, participating in rehearsals, meeting drummers, and learning about the theme 'A Nação do Mangue', which addresses the Manguebeat movement.
